RANCHO SANTA FE, CALIF. – Three Pirates shot a 3-over-par, 73, in round three to pace the Seton Hall men's golf team to a 13th place finish at the 2024 NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional at The Farms Golf Club on Wednesday.
Â
The sun never came out on Wednesday and there was a constant cool breeze, but it proved to be beneficial for The Hall in round three as the Pirates shot a tournament-best 13-over-par, 293. Wenliang Xie (Burbank, Calif.), David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) and Jack Bosworth (Daniel Island, S.C.) all shot a 3-over-par, 73, to lead Seton Hall, while George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) was only one stroke behind with a 4-over-par, 74.
Â
The Hall's 293 is, by far, its best single-round effort of the tournament. The 13-seeded Pirates finished as expected, in 13th place with a 58-over-par, 302-303-293-898. The five teams advancing to the National Championship are Oklahoma (-3), California (+3), Oklahoma State (+5), West Virginia (+5) and North Florida (+10). Top-seeded Arizona State finished sixth at 15-over-par.
Â
If this is Xie's final collegiate round, he again left his mark. The graduate student had three birdies and was 1-under-par on the front nine before finishing with a 3-over-par, 73. For the tournament, he tied for 47th place with a 12-over-par, 74-75-73-222. Xie's career 72.82 stroke average ranks second-lowest in Seton Hall history.
Â
Lally capped off a strong sophomore season with 3-over-par, 73, despite a tough finish to his round. He was 1-under par through 14 holes, but bogeyed the last four. For the tournament, Lally tied Xie at 12-over-par with a 77-72-73-222.
Â
Bosworth completed his breakout sophomore campaign with his best round of the tournament, shaving six strokes off his second-round score. He had four birdies in route to a 3-over-par, 73. Bosworth finished the NCAA event with a 17-over-par, 75-79-73-227.
Â
Fricker started his final round with six straight pars, and was just 1-over-par at the turn, but ran into trouble on the back nine. Still, the junior carded a solid 4-over-par, 74, on Wednesday, his best effort of the tournament. For the event, Fricker was 20-over-par with a 76-80-74-230.
Â
Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.) carded a 13-over-par, 83, on Wednesday. The senior closed out a quality Seton Hall career with a 33-over-par, 83-77-83-243. Sun's 74.13 career scoring record ranks 11th best in Pirates' history.
Â
San Diego's Andi Xu advances to the National Championship with the top individual score not on an advancing team. Oklahoma's Ben Lorenz won the Regional at 8-under-par, but he's already advancing as Oklahoma also won the team title of the Rancho Santa Fe Regional. Sampson Zheng also shot 4-under-par, but he too is already advancing with California, which placed second.

THE COURSE
Built in 1988 in the ruggedly beautiful terrain of Rancho Santa Fe, one of San Diego's most prestigious communities, The Farms Golf Club, a private, member-owned equity club, was created and built for golf enthusiasts…golfers serious in their commitment to the game and its historical traditions.
Â
Originally designed by Pete, Perry and Alice Dye with assistance from golfing great Tommy Jacobs, The Farms golf course was extensively remodeled in 2000 under the guidance of golf course architect John Fought and his associate, PGA tour professional Tom Lehman.Â
Â
With modifications designed to improve the playability and maintainability of the course, changes included newly reconstructed and re-contoured bent grass putting greens that allow for more undulation and additional hole locations; new teeing areas and bunkering that test a player's ability to visualize and execute the proper shot; a state-of-the-art irrigation system; and a wonderful practice facility featuring a double-ended driving range, complete with target greens and bunkers. Nestled amid gently rolling hills and hollows, several additional water features and newly created high rough landscaping add to the course's beauty and the sense of peaceful seclusion that prevails on this championship course.
