NEWARK, N.J. — Despite a career-high six steals from Garwey Dual and a near-perfect night from the free-throw line by Isaiah Coleman, the Seton Hall men's basketball team fell to St. John's, 79-51.
The Red Storm (16-3, 7-1 BIG EAST) had four scorers in double figures, while the Pirates (6-12, 1-6 BIG EAST) had one double-digit scorer.
How It Happened
St John's jumped out to a 9-1 lead before Prince Aligbe drained the first bucket of the night for the Pirates to put them down 9-3 with 15:36 remaining in the first half. A Red Storm run would put the Pirates down 13, but a quartet of free throws from Gus Yalden and Isaiah Coleman reduced the deficit to 10, 17-7, with 12:07 left in the half. However, a 22-to-9 run over the final 12 minutes of the half would send the Pirates to the half down 23, 39-16.

The Hall began the half on a 7-4 run that featured layups from Godswill Erheriene and Aligbe to reduce the its deficit to 20, 43-23, with 17:26 left in the game. After the Red Storm added another bucket, the Pirates defensive pressure provided the team with another run back into the game. After a pair of Coleman free throws and Garwey Dual steals, both off Kadary Richmond, St John's called a time out as the Pirates closed the deficit back to 16, 45-29, with 15:51 left in the game.
Out of the timeout, the Red Storm responded with an 8-to-2 run, expanding the Pirates deficit back to 22, 53-31.
