Lawrenceville, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team swept doubles and secured four out of six singles matches to defeat Rider on the road, 5-2, in its dual match season opener Friday at the Campus Tennis Courts. Niamh Campbell, Anastasia Sereda, Jaden Davidson and Kira Farrakhova were all double winners on the day (doubles win and singles win).
"First things first, I give a lot of credit to Rider today; they fought incredibly hard, played with a positive mindset from start to finish and pushed our team to the brink to try and get the win," said head coach James Enzler. "Our girls did a good job of digging in though and fighting the elements to get the win. We just need to continue to build on our confidence and make sure that when the score is close, we still drive through the ball and keep the feet moving."
The Pirates didn't have a lot of trouble in doubles, only giving up seven games en route to a sweep of all three courts.
In singles, Kira Farrakhova made her dual match collegiate debut and did so in the No. 1 position and secured a straight sets win over Claire Brown. Niamh Campbell was also a straight sets winner at No. 5, defeating Kashish Kant.
The match came down to a few courts that went to third sets, and the Pirates picked up wins from Jaden Davidson at No. 3 and Anastasia Sereda at No. 4. Both of them won their first sets, lost the second sets and then took the third.
Seton Hall is going to close out the fall portion of the season with a trip to Wilmington, N.C., to compete in the Seahawk Ocean Classic, hosted by UNC Wilmington Oct. 31 - Nov. 2.
