NEW YORK, N.Y. – After breaking multiple individual and relay records, senior Michael Klimaszewski (London, England) has been named BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Individually, the Londoner found himself on the podium twice this past weekend. After claiming the top seed in the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 46.75, Klimaszewski brought home the silver medal in the finals. Additionally, he had a breakout weekend in the 100 freestyle. After setting a new school record in prelims with a time of 43.59, the senior lowered the record again in finals. Klimaszewski would not only put up a new record time of 43.36, but he claimed the Pirates' lone overall win of the weekend.
Alongside his teammates, Klimaszewski rewrote the relay record board. In the 200 medley relay, his clutch butterfly leg helped power the Pirates to a new record time of 1:27.55, 0.04 seconds faster than the record established at last season's BIG EAST Championships. Across the entire field, The Hall placed third overall with that time.
In his final race of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay. Kilmaszewski led off the race with a blistering 43.61 to keep the Pirates around the front of the field. The rest of the team swam lights out, earning a third-place finish with a time of 2:55.47. That mark was an improvement by over half a second from the record the same four-man lineup set nine months prior at the BIG EAST Championships.
