Staton-McCray Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Graduate student AJ Staton-McCray (Delray Beach, Fla.) has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week after averaging 19.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals in the Pirates' 2-1 run to third place at the Maui Invitational that also landed him All-Tournament Team honors.
This win marks Staton-McCray's first career BIG EAST Player of the Week recognition and his first conference honor this season.
Staton-McCray was a game-changing force during the Pirates' tournament run in the Aloha State, shooting 58.3% from the field (21-of-36) and 47.3% from the three-point line (9-of-19). In The Hall's tournament-opening upset win over No. 23 NC State, McCray tallied both a season-high 22 points and eight rebounds. The Floridian dominated the Wolfpack at all levels, connecting on 7-of-11 shots from the field, 3-of-7 from three and 5-of-6 from the line.

He returned to the court in the Maui Invitational Third Place game against Washington State with the fiery presence from the clash against NC State. Staton-McCray dominated the Cougars from start to finish, knocking down 8-14 looks from the floor, in addition to three steals, as The Hall secured a 75-61 win to close out the Maui Invitational.AJ is FEELING IT 🔥
