Staton-McCray Lands on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
12/8/2025 11:01:00 AM | Men's Basketball
NEW YORK – Graduate student AJ Staton-McCray has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday. The guard averaged 14 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals as the Pirates earned two more wins this past week to improve to 9-1 on the season.
This gives Staton-McCray back-to-back BIG EAST weekly honors, as he was named BIG EAST Player of the Week last Monday coming off his performance at the Maui Invitational.
Staton-McCray tied for a game-high with 16 points on Saturday in Seton Hall's road win at Kansas State, its first win over a Big 12 foe since 2021. The Delray Beach, Fla. native was aggressive in getting to the basket even when his shots from the floor were not falling, going a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe to help contribute heavily to the victory.
Staton-McCray also played a factor in the Pirates' 77-61 win over Central Connecticut State on Wednesday night inside Walsh Gymnasium. He chipped in with 12 points, three steals and knocked down a pair of threes in the victory.
The Pirates return to Prudential Center this Saturday to host Rutgers in the annual Garden State Hardwood Classic. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. with live coverage available on FS1.
