Pirates Fight Hard in Home Opener

New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team fought hard in its 2025 home opener, losing to Connecticut, 4-0, Friday night at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness in a match that was much closer than the score indicated. The Pirates led in almost every singles match at varying points and easily could have won multiple singles matches had the clinch rule not been in effect.
"We lost a tough one today," said Seton Hall head coach James Enzler. "The final score doesn't tell the whole story of how close this match actually was. I give credit to Glenn and his UConn team; they're a disciplined group of girls and they know how to pull out tough wins. As we get more matches under our belt and continue to focus on not just being aggressive for one or two shots - but for the whole point - we will be in a really good spot. I'm not too worried. If our team continues to work hard, the sky's the limit for what we can accomplish moving forward."
The Pirates dropped the doubles point but came out strong in singles. At No. 1, Anastasia Sereda won the first set against Olivia Wright. At No. 4, Tamsin Hart staved off match point to force a second-set tiebreaker against Caroline Hinshaw before the clinch rule ended the match unfinished. At No. 5, Isabelle May rallied to force a third set against Victoria Matos.
Seton Hall will turn around and host Colgate Saturday evening at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness at 6 p.m.
