South Orange, N.J. – As the end of the 2024-25 academic year rapidly approaches, the Pirates community came together to celebrate the achievements of Seton Hall student-athletes throughout the year at the ninth annual SHUcademy Awards held April 29 inside the Bishop Dougherty University Center Event Room.
Seton Hall assistant strength & conditioning coordinator Angelo Gingerelli hosted the event which saw representation from every program and celebrates the best of the best in Pirates athletics for the year.
Freshman Female Athlete of the Year was presented to women's basketball's Jada Eads, who established herself as a force for the Pirates in her freshman season, averaging 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 26 games on her way to All-BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST All-Freshman team honors. Over the course of the season, she was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week five times, as well as BIG EAST Player of the Week once after a 26-point showcase performance in The Hall's 69-49 win over Butler.
Swimming and diving's Bálint Marosi took home Freshman Male Athlete of the Year honors. The towering force from Szahalombatta, Hungary, parlayed a strong regular season into a dominant performance at the BIG EAST Championships that landed him Co-Most Outstanding Male Swimmer honors. Individually, alongside a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke, Marosi won conference titles in both the 200 backstroke and 200 IM, setting a new school record in the latter race. In the relays, Marosi played a key role in three school-record breaking lineups, two of which finished as conference champions.
Sophomore Female Athlete of the Year went to softball's Katey Brennan. After claiming All-BIG EAST first team and BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors last season, Brennan took another dominant step at the plate. Alongside strong play in left field, Brennan slashed .297/.469/.497 with a career-high seven home runs and a single-season program record tally of 49 runs across her 51 games this season. During the opening stages of this past season, her 12-game hitting streak finished tied for the sixth-longest hitting streak in program history.
Aiden Robbins took home Sophomore Male Athlete of the Year honors after being named Freshman Male Athlete of the Year last season. Robbins has become one of the best hitters in all of college baseball. In addition ranking in the top-15 nationally in hits (76) and triples (5), Robbins owns the ninth-highest batting average (.420) and tenth-highest on-base percentage (.533) in the country. With two weeks remaining in the season, the Yardley, Pa., native has 12 games of three-or-more hits and one BIG EAST Player of the Week win.
Michael Klimaszewski of the swimming & diving team was named Junior Male Athlete of the Year. Klimaszewski, who previously won both Freshman and Sophomore Male Athlete of the Year, collected his third honor after posting his best season to date. The king of the 100 butterfly earned his third consecutive BIG EAST title in the event at this year's championships, setting both a new school record and breaking the 15-year-old BIG EAST record with a time of 46.15. Klimaszewski also earned second place in the 200 butterfly with a school-record time of 1:46.05. In the relays, the London native was part of three school record-breaking lineups, two of which went on to claim BIG EAST titles in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
The award for Junior Female Athlete of the Year went to softball's Caroline Hobbes. Alongside her excellent defensive play, the second baseman took a massive step at the plate this season. By the season's end, Hobbes established herself as one of the key hitters towards the top of a Pirates offense that ranked top 50 in scoring. The Long Island-native saw her batting average grow almost 90 points to .311, while also recording career high marks in doubles (7), on-base percentage (.395) and runs scored (38).
