House v. NCAA Settlement Update
6/10/2025 11:10:00 AM | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Pirate Blue
Dear Pirates,
This past weekend marked a defining moment not just in the history of college athletics, but in the heart of the game we all love.
As you've likely heard, a historic settlement has been reached: universities, including our own Seton Hall, will now begin sharing revenue with student-athletes. There has never been a more dramatic change in the history of college athletics. And as we stand on the threshold of a new era, I want to ensure we provide you with additional details on how this will look for Seton Hall.
First, let me say this: our commitment to excellence has never wavered. Seton Hall Basketball has long stood as a beacon of pride, grit, and determination — not just for our University, but for the entire Seton Hall community. Through highs and lows, our fans have been the heartbeat of this program. You've packed Prudential Center and Walsh Gym, followed us on the road, believed in our student-athletes, and lived and breathed Pirate Blue. For that, I thank you deeply.
Second, our overall mission as we have navigated the constant changes within college athletics has been the commitment to our student-athletes and how we position ourselves for long-term success.Â
What does the House Settlement Mean for Seton Hall:
The House v. NCAA settlement is not just a legal milestone — it's a cultural shift. For the first time in history, schools will directly share revenue with student-athletes.
At Seton Hall, our revenue sharing efforts will be geared towards Men's and Women's Basketball.  Your tax-deductible gifts to Pirate Blue will be utilized in this capacity. We got a jump start in our efforts this past April with our annual Pirate Blue Giving Day, when Pirate Blue supporters rallied to give nearly $500,000 towards our new Pirate Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball Revenue Sharing Funds. Donor contributions towards Revenue Sharing will also qualify for Pirate Blue benefit levels.Â
Per the settlement, each sport will move from a scholarship limit model to a roster cap model. This provides flexibility, and Seton Hall Athletics will utilize this flexibility to provide scholarship dollars as best needed for our 14 varsity sports.
In anticipation of the settlement approval, our staff has been working tirelessly evaluating our operations, the financial impact, building sustainable revenue strategies and creating a road map to ensure Seton Hall not only adapts but also thrives in this new era. We have had to make difficult decisions that include operational reductions, and I'm deeply grateful to our university administration and campus partners for their collaboration throughout this critical planning process.
At Seton Hall, we are embracing this change. We recognize the unique role we play — not just as competitors on the court, but as educators, mentors, and leaders preparing young people for life beyond basketball. We also recognize the financial realities this new model introduces.
The road ahead will require adaptation. It will require innovation. And most of all, it will require unity.
But we can't do this alone.
Now more than ever, we need Pirate Nation to stand with us. Your support — whether through ticket sales, donations to the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund, corporate partnerships, or simply showing up and making noise — fuels this program. It helps us retain top talent. It helps us recruit the next generation of stars. It ensures Seton Hall remains a force in the BIG EAST and on the national stage.
This is a transformative moment, and yes, there are challenges ahead. But there is also a tremendous opportunity. Seton Hall has always punched above its weight, and with your continued passion, we will build a future that honors our legacy while boldly stepping into what's next.
Let's rise together. Let's show the world that Seton Hall is ready — not just to play, but to lead.
Â
How Can You Help?
We cannot succeed in this new era without your continued support. Here's how you can make a direct impact:
Â
Renew or Become a Season Ticket Holder
Becoming a season ticket holder and cheering for men's & women's basketball all season long is a tremendous way to support this new collegiate landscape. Season ticket holder priority seat premiums are now going towards basketball revenue sharing. Season tickets also remain the best way to enjoy our basketball games as season ticket holders get access to the best seats that are discounted significantly from single-game pricing.
If you are a men's basketball season ticket holder who has not yet renewed, the deadline is June 30, and our sales team is ready to assist you. Please review your invoice on Account Manager and email tickets@shu.edu with any questions.
If you are a women's basketball season ticket holder, our season ticket renewal period has not yet begun, but please do reach out to tickets@shu.edu if you have questions.
If you are not yet a season ticket holder for either men's or women's basketball, but are interested, fill out a ticket information form, and a member of the sales team will contact you.
Â
Make a Gift to Pirate Blue to Support NIL/Revenue Sharing
Separate from season tickets, you can support revenue sharing by making a tax-deductible gift to Pirate Blue and designate it to go towards Men's/Women's Basketball Revenue Sharing. Every gift matters, and if you are able, please consider making an annual gift so that we can continue to grow and sustain our revenue sharing abilities. You can make a gift online today, and our Pirate Blue office is ready to assist you or answer questions; you can reach them at pirateblue@shu.edu.
Â
Continue Supporting Onward Setonia
Our friends at Onward Setonia will continue to play a role as they look to maximize third-party NIL opportunities through merchandise, experiences and more. If you currently support Seton Hall student-athlete NIL through Onward Setonia, you can continue to do so and know that it is still making an impact.
Â
Spread the Word!
We have a passionate fan base, and we need our fans to be our loudest advocates! Tell your fellow Pirates fans and alums that now is the time to rally together and get involved!
