CHICAGO, ILL. — Despite a trio of double-digit scoring performances, the Seton Hall men's basketball team fell to the DePaul Blue Demons, 67-60, inside Wintrust Arena.
The Pirates (14-6, 4-5 BE) shot 37.7% (23-of-61) from the field and lost out on the glass 33-to-32. The Blue Demons (12-8, 4-5 BE) shot 36.4% (8-of-22) from three with 19 points from CJ Gunn.
How It Happened  Â
As the wind swirled in Chicago, the Pirates' offense found themselves lost in the winds of DePaul's defense sets. After going down 7-0, Elijah Fisher and Budd Clark opened the scoring for the Pirates to make it a 7-3 game through five minutes of play. While The Hall searched for answers offensively, the defense remained stingy in hopes of turning DePaul's mistakes into Seton Hall points.
As the half pushed forward, the onus continually shifted onto Clark to push the offense forward. The floor general knifed through the Blue Demons' defense, collecting 10 first-half points and two assists to cut the deficit all the way down to four, 24-20, with two minutes left in the half. DePaul would close the half on a 6-to-0 run to put Seton Hall down 10, 30-20, entering halftime.
Out of the break, the Pirates found fire on both ends off the floor. Led by four points from AJ Staton-McCray, The Hall marshalled an 8-to-2 run to bring the deficit back to four, 32-28, through less than five minutes of play.
Even with that resurgence, the momentum would not carry throughout the rest of the half. Despite 20 combined second-half points from Tajuan Simpkins and Mike Williams, the Pirates struggled to quell the Blue Demons' offense. While the deficit grew to as many as 16 points, when the buzzer sounded, the Pirates' fell to DePaul 67-60.

The Pirates return to action on Wednesday, January 28, when they play host to the Xavier Musketeers. The game will be broadcast on Peacock with opening tip slated for 7:30 p.m.`
