NEWARK, N.J. — Led by double-digit scoring debuts from Terry Copeland Jr. and Roddie Anderson III, the Seton Hall men's basketball team downed the Saint Peter's Peacocks, 66-42, in The Hall's season opener inside the Prudential Center on Monday night.
The Pirates dominated early and often, shooting 37 percent (7-of-19) from beyond the arc and outrebounding the Peacocks, 37-28. The Peacocks were held to 26 percent (13-of-50) shooting from the field while losing the turnover battle, 16-12.
How It Happened
As a new season tipped off at The Rock, a fresh face scored the Pirates' opening points. After shaking off his defender in the post, Copeland laid in the first two points of his Seton Hall career. The junior from Orange, New Jersey, added two more, but the rest of the Pirates offense was silent in the opening minutes, putting the team down 8-4 at the first media timeout.
The timeout seemed to unlock something for The Hall, as the team came out storming in the ensuing minutes. Elijah Fisher made himself known on both ends with a steal and his first points of the season, while Simeon Wilcher tied it at 8-8 with 14:36 remaining in the half.
With momentum on both ends, Seton Hall's oppressive wave became an all-consuming tsunami. Devin Williams and Mihailo Petrovic ran a successful bench unit stint as the starters took a breather, combining for seven points and three assists. When the starters returned, however, Anderson took the wheel and put the pedal to the metal. Anderson set the game alight, collecting 10 points over the final six minutes of the half. Meanwhile, Seton Hall's defense suffocated Saint Peter's, holding the visitors to just 10 points over the final 16:10 of the half. As the halftime buzzer sounded, the Pirates led 36-18 after ending the half on a 12-6 run.
After the break, Anderson continued his statement performance, draining another three-pointer ten seconds into the half to push Seton Hall's lead past 20. However, the two sides began trading baskets as the half approached its midpoint, keeping the Pirates ahead and stalling the Peacock's momentum. By the 10 minute mark, Seton Hall's lead had only dipped by one to 19 points, 48-29.
Yet, as quickly as the game stalled, it sped back up for The Hall. Copeland added four quick points, while true freshman Darien Moore Jr. collected a steal to give the team its largest lead of the night, 54-29. As the minutes waned and more players rotated onto the court, Moore continued to show out, including netting his first career three-pointer. As the buzzer sounded, the Pirates came away with a dominant 66-42 victory to open the 2026-27 season.
