New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team had a strong showing in doubles against Rutgers, but the Pirates ultimately dropped a 4-0 decision to the Scarlet Knights Friday at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness.
The teams played clinch as Rutgers was playing its second match of the day.
"I really liked what I saw today," said Seton Hall head coach James Enzler. "Doubles in particular was outstanding, and I'm excited to see how they play tomorrow. In singles, we've got a good core group of players that are competing well every match, which is exciting go see. As long as we maintain a strong mental presence in our match tomorrow, I have faith we can push Villanova and get a much overdue win against them. I'm excited to see what tomorrow brings."
Doubles was closely contested and could have gone the Pirates' way with just a few points difference. Then in singles, although Rutgers was a straight sets winner at Nos. 2, 3 and 5, the Pirates were leading at Nos. 4 and 6 at the time of clinch.
Seton Hall faces Villanova in a BIG EAST match at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness Saturday at 6 p.m.
