Seton Hall Draws Marquette in BIG EAST Championship First Round

NEW YORK -Â The Seton Hall women's tennis team has been seeded ninth in this week's BIG EAST Championship, and the Pirates will face No. 8 seed Marquette in the first round Thursday at Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C., at 9 a.m.
Seeds for the championship were determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
The Pirates and Golden Eagles did not meet this season, one of four BIG EAST teams Seton Hall did not play. The last encounter between them came April 5, 2024 when Marquette came away victorious, 6-1, in a match played on NJIT's campus in Newark.Â
The two teams had three common opponents this season: Georgetown, Providence and UConn. Both teams defeated Providence and lost to Georgetown and UConn.
The winner between Seton Hall and Marquette will move on to face No. 1 seed Xavier in the quarterfinals Friday at 1 p.m.
Last season, the Pirates were also the No. 9 seed in the BIG EAST Championship and defeated No. 8 seed Creighton in the first round before pushing No. 1 seed UConn to the limit in the quarterfinals.
