MEN'S SOCCER (8-2-2, 4-2-1)The men's soccer team posted a record of 1-0-1 last week when it defeated Villanova, 2-0, and played to a scoreless tie against Boston College. The Pirates finished with week with a record of 8-2-2, overall and 4-2-1 in BIG EAST matches.
On Wednesday (Oct. 7), junior forward Peter Scavo (Raritan, NJ) scored a goal and added two assists to lead #14 Seton Hall to a 3-0 shutout win over Villanova. Senior goalkeeper Derek Martin (St. Louis, MO) turned away four shots to secure the shutout. The Pirates wasted no time in getting on the board, as junior midfielder Jeff Rigby (Turnersville, NJ) corralled a ball in the midfield and fed junior A.J. Panas (Budd Lake, NJ) on the left side, who fed Scavo with a cross in the box for the initial score. In the second half, the Wildcats came out strong, pressuring the Seton Hall defense. Brian Cuddy (North North Brunswick, NJ), drilled a 10-yard shot for his second goal of the season and freshman forward Gregory Strohmann (Weirheim, Germany) scored his eighth goal of the season.
On Saturday (Oct. 10) the Pirates and the Eagles played to a scoreless tie. The Pirates pressured all day, but were unable to breakthrough, as Boston College goalkeeper Chris Hamblin made eight saves. The Pirates outshot the Eagles 19-10 and held a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Martin made six saves in net, picking up his third straight shutout and extending his scoreless streak to 380:06 minutes. Martin has not allowed a goal since a September 30 match with Rutgers.
Next for Men's Soccer: Seton Hall travels to Pittsburgh for a 7:30 p.m. match on Friday (Oct. 16) then continues onto Notre Dame for match on Sunday (Oct. 18) at 1:00 p.m.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (6-4-1, 3-2-1)
The women's soccer team split a pair of road games last week when it
dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Pennsylvania but rebounded to post a
2-0 victory over intra-state and BIG EAST rival Rutgers. The Pirates
finished the week with a record of 6-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference.
Junior forward Kelly Smith (Garston Watford Herts, England) scored
two goals to lead Seton Hall over Rutgers, 2-0, on Saturday (Oct. 10) in
Piscataway, NJ. Smith gave the Pirates an early 1-0 lead at 10:52
when freshman Jen Langlois (Charlton, MA) crossed the ball into the box
and Smith scored from 15 yards out. Smith's second goal came at 86:50
on a 25-yard direct kick. Although Rutgers outshot Seton Hall, 16-12,
senior goalkeeper Stacey Nagle (Macungie, PA) made seven saves on the evening
to earn her third shutout of the season.
On Wednesday (Oct. 7) the Pirates came back from a 2-0 deficit in the
second half to tie the game and send it into overtime. But Pennsylvania's
Andrea Callaghan's goal less than four minutes into the overtime sealed
secured the victory for the Quakers. Down 2-0 Smith put the Pirates
on the board with an unassisted goal, and later assisted on a goal by Michele
Phalen (Somerset, NJ), her first of the season. Nagle made seven
saves for the Pirates.
NEXT FOR THE PIRATES: The Pirates host two BIG EAST contests with Pittsburgh on Friday (Oct. 16) at 3:00 p.m. and then Notre Dame visits for a match on Sunday (Oct. 18) at 1:00 p.m.
Stacey Nagle was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season. Nagle made 7 saves to post a 2-0 shutout of Rutger, her third shutout of the season.

The women's volleyball team split a pair of BIG EAST home games last week with a 3-1 win over Boston College, but dropped a 3-2 decision to Providence. The Pirates finished the week with an overall record of 9-9 and 2-2 in BIG EAST play.
On Saturday (Oct. 10), senior Jacki Woodford (Prince Frederick, MD) collected 13 kills and 11 digs to lead Seton Hall to a 3-1 win over Boston College. In addition, junior Jennifer Mumby (Chelmsford, MA) added 11 kills and a season-high six service aces, while junior Kadri Kruus (Tallin, Estonia) totaled 37 assists. Freshman Paige Ellertson (Mt. Holly Springs, PA) accumulated a match-high 22 digs. The Pirates dropped the opening game to the Eagles, 16-14, but came roaring back to capture the next three. In the second game, Seton Hall cruised to a quick 15-4 win and then posted 15-11 and 15-10 wins to secure the match.
On Sunday (Oct. 11), trailing two games to none, Providence rallied to capture the next three games and snatch a 3-2 win over Seton Hall. The Pirates opened strong, capturing the first two games by scores of 15-6 and 15-13. In the third game, Providence rallied to take a 15-9 victory and then took the next two games by identical 15-12 scores. The Pirates were led once again by Woodford who collected a team-high 12 kills, while senior outside hitter Leslie Schipper (Kalamazoo, MI/Parchment) added 11 kills.

Junior Evelyne Macko (Longueuil, Canada) and freshman partner Jasmine
Wolcott (Ft. Collins, CO) captured the Flight C consolation doubles championship
at the Brown Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 11). The duo defeated Boston
College's Kim Arbuckle and Ruta Veitas, 8-4.
The freshman team of Elizabeth Dugan (Somerset, NJ) and Danielle Houle
(Charlton, MA) earned a third place finish in main draw Flight D doubles
after Harvard's Shara Miller and Alex Olsen withdrew.
