Men Finish Fourth, Women Eighth, at Metropolitan Cross Country Championships

BRONX, NY (Oct. 6, 2000) -- Junior Patrick Gildea (Holbrook, NY) finished in seventh with a time of 26:00.9 to propel the Seton Hall men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the 2000 Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on October 6. The Seton Hall women's team placed eighth, led by a 10th-place individual finish by sophomore Ruth Chege (Mohnton, PA) in 19:07.2.
Fairleigh Dickinson won the men's title with 23 points, followed by Columbia (43), Manhattan (93) and Seton Hall (126). Columbia (20 points) took home the women's championship.
The Seton Hall men had another top-20 finisher in senior James McGovern (Atlantic Highlands, NJ), who ran in a time of 26:44.4.
On the women's side, sophomore Celeste Banks (Jersey City, NJ) placed 25th in a time of 19:51.6.
The men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Oct. 27 at the BIG EAST Championships in Boston, MA.
