Golf Team Ties for Third Place at McLaughlin Tournament

FARMINDALE, NY (Sept. 29, 2000) -- The Seton Hall golf team shot a two-day total of 604 to finish in a tie for third place out of 20 teams at the St. John's McLaughlin Tournament at The Black at Bethpage. The Pirates were led by senior captain Eugene Smith (Glen Ridge, NJ/Bergen Catholic) who shot a 74-71-145 to finish third individually. Smith was three over par.

Sophomore Justin Van Hyning (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Regional) shot a 71-76-147 to finish in a tie for fourth place and junior Brian McGowan's (Cresskill, NJ/St. Joseph's) score of 76-73-149 was good for ninth place.

Rounding out the finishers for the Pirates were junior Jonas Forssell (North Plainfield, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) with a 79-84-163 (tied for 65th) and junior Dennis Bosworth (West Orange, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) with a 80-86-166 (78th).

St. John's won the tournament with a total of 586, while UNC Greensboro finished second with a 597. Seton Hall was tied for third with Methodist College.

The Pirates return to action Oct. 6-7 at the Temple Invitational at the Glenmaura Golf Course in Moosic, PA.
