Women's Tennis Ends Skid; Defeats Villanova, 5-2

EDISON, NJ (Apr. 2, 2001) -- The Seton Hall women's tennis team ended their seven-match losing streak by defeating Villanova, 5-2, for their first BIG EAST victory of the season. The victory improves them to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST conference play.
The Wildcats fall to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the BIG EAST.
Pirate singles victories were earned by junior Kyli Lassalle (New Iberia, LA), freshman Kim Barfuss (Denville, NJ), junior Jasmine Wolcott (Denver, CO) and junior Beth Dugan (Somerset, NJ).
At first singles, Lassalle defeated Julie Darne, 6-4, 6-2, ending a personal four match losing streak. Barfuss defeated Stephane Ariot, 6-4, 6-3, at second singles. Wolcott got past Jessie Rybacki in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, at fourth singles and Dugan beat Liz Ferrell, 6-2, 6-1, at sixth singles.
The Pirates earned the doubles point with wins at first and second doubles. The first doubles team of Lassalle and Barfuss defeated Darne and Ariot, 8-1. At second doubles, Wolcott and freshman Nicole Cercone (North Seminole, FL) earned an 8-6 victory over Rybacki and Ashley Young.
The Seton Hall women's tennis team returns to action on Friday, April 6 as they travel to West Virginia. Match time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
