Golf Ties For Seventh At Lonnie D. Small Intercollegiate

BUIES CREEK, NC (April 3, 2001)- Senior Eugene Smith (Glen Ridge, NJ) fired a one-over-par, 73, in the second round of the Lonnie D. Small Intercollegiate, to lead the Seton Hall golf team to a seventh place tie.
As a team, the Pirates shot a 13-over-par, 301, to go with their 298 on Monday for 599 tournament total. The Pirates finished 14 strokes back of the champion, North Carolina - Wilmington.
Smith had the highest individual finish for the Pirates shooting a 73-73-146 to tie for 10th place overall.
Senior Drew McMahon (Little Falls, NJ), the tournament leader after round one, shot a four-over-par, 76, on Tuesday to finish tied for 15th place overall. It is McMahon's highest finish this year.
Junior Brian McGowan (Cresskill, NJ) finished a Pirate third-best by firing a two-over-par, 74, Tuesday, to tie for 35th place overall going 77-74-151 for the tournament.
Sophomore Justin Van Hyning (Bordentown, NJ) and junior Robert DeSevo (Red Bank, NJ) rounded out the scoring for the Pirates. Van Hyning tied for 51st with a 77-78-155 for the tournament. DeSevo's second round play was a six-stroke improvement from Monday, and earned him a 65th place finish. DeSevo went 85-79-164 for the tournament.
The golf team returns to action on April 8-9 as they travel to the Liberty Spring Invitational.
