Volleyball Snaps Five-Game Skid With Sweep of Siena

Freshman Tricia Meyers was one of four Pirates to record double-digit kills on Tuesday.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Four players recorded double-digit kills for the Seton Hall volleyball team on Tuesday as it snapped a five-game losing streak with a match sweep of Siena in Walsh Gym. The non-conference win improved Seton Hall to 8-11 overall, while Siena fell to 11-9.

Freshman Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Pirates with 13 kills, on .462 hitting. Junior Jessica King (Midland, Ontario) had 12 kills, five digs and three block assists, with sophomore Jennifer Procuniar (Grapevine, Texas) also tallying 12 digs, a new season-high for her. Senior Allison Scholl (Cupertino, Calif.) rounded out the double-digit kill quartet, adding 10 kills with an attacking percentage of .529.

As a team, Seton Hall hit .425, the highest team percentage of the year and the first time this season the Pirates hit over .400 in a match.

Other top performers for Seton Hall were freshman setter Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.), accumulating 40 assists and five digs, junior libero Jessica Pompei (Fairview Park, Ohio), netting a match-high 19 digs, and senior Amber Davis (Santa Barbara, Calif.), who notched six kills and six blocks.

Seton Hall won game one, 30-23, and game three, 30-22, with the second game of the match standing as the most hotly contested. In that game, the Pirates held a late 27-24 lead and looked like they were about to pull out the win, but the Saints rebounded to tie the score, 28-28. However, Seton Hall earned the victory on back-to-back kills from King and Davis, to win, 30-28.

For Siena, Nadiege Honore had a match-high 14 kills and Christie Gustafson added 11 kills. The Saints had a team attacking percentage of .218.

The Pirates will continue their four-match non-conference stretch on Thursday, Oct. 13, when they host Stony Brook at 7:00 p.m. in Walsh Gym.
