Volleyball Loses 3-1 at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Seton Hall volleyball team lost at Syracuse, 3-1, in the Manley Field House on Sunday. The Pirates only managed to hit .079 as a team, their second lowest attacking percentage of the season. The loss was Seton Hall’s fifth straight, and drops its overall record to 12-16, and 2-10 in the BIG EAST. With the win, Syracuse improves to 23-8 overall, 10-2 in the BIG EAST.

Senior Amber Davis (Santa Barbara, Calif.) was the only Pirate to record double-digit kills, tallying 12 to go along with five blocks. Freshman Breanna Leisner (Bloomington, Ill.) had eight kills and 13 digs, and both junior Jessica King (Midland, Ontario) and sophomore Kristen Denboer (Loveland, Colo.) recorded seven kills.

Also for Seton Hall, freshman setter Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had 37 assists, and junior libero Jessica Pompei (Fairview Park, Ohio) improved on her single-season digs record, netting 13 in the match, increasing her season total to 387.

Syracuse had three players with double-digit kills and the Orange boasted a team attacking percentage of .308. Kelly Duan led all offensive players with 18 kills, Kristen Conway had 14, and Cheryl Cobbina added 13.

Syracuse was dominant in the first two games of the match, winning both by a score of 30-16. Seton Hall responded coming out of the intermission, taking game three, 30-26. In that game, the Pirates built a six-point lead, 21-15, and managed to keep the Orange from pulling any closer than three points down the stretch. Syracuse proceeded to put the match away in game four, winning, 30-22.

Seton Hall returns to action next Friday, Nov. 11, when it will host South Florida in Walsh Gym at 7:00 p.m.
