Volleyball Falls to St. John's, 3-0

Senior Allison Scholl had a team-high nine kills for Seton Hall.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall volleyball team was swept on Friday by the St. John’s Red Storm in Walsh Gym. Senior Allison Scholl (Cupertino, Calif.) and junior Jessica King (Midland, Ontario) both had a team-high nine kills for the Pirates. With the loss, Seton Hall falls to 7-8 overall, 1-2 in the BIG EAST, while the Red Storm improve to 15-5 overall, 1-2 in the BIG EAST.

St. John’s was propelled by freshman Hui Ping Huang and sophomore LaToya Blunt, who had a match-high 18 and 12 kills respectively. The Red Storm hit .328 as a team.

Game one of the match was very competitive, but Huang led a 6-0 St. John’s scoring run to end the game, and give her team the 30-25 victory. Huang served the final five points of the frame, garnering two service aces in the win.

The Pirates also lost game two, 30-25, and fell again in game three, 30-21. Game three was tied early on, but from the 11-11 point, St. John’s steadily began to build its lead. The Red Storm had a 6-0 scoring run from that point, eventually pulling out the game and match victory.

Other top-performers for the Pirates were senior Amber Davis (Santa Barbara, Calif.), who tallied eight kills, and junior Jessica Pompei (Fairview Park, Ohio) recorded a match-high 13 digs. As a team, Seton Hall hit .271.

The Pirates will return to action this Sunday, Oct. 2, when they host the Connecticut Huskies at 2:00 p.m. in Walsh Gym.
