Volleyball Holds Off Robert Morris

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall volleyball team improved its record to 13-9 on the season as they defeated Robert Morris 3-1 (30-23, 30-13, 22-30, 30-28) on Saturday.  Sophomore Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati Ohio) led the Pirates with 18 kills and a hitting percentage of .433 for the match.  Seton Hall was looking for the sweep after taking the first two games, but the Colonials (10-13) won game three and stayed close with the Pirates in game four.

Sophomore Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) posted 46 assists and continues to climb up the SHU career assist list.  Rahrer passed Kadri Kruus for third all-time; she now has 2,155 in her two seasons at Seton Hall.

For the rest of the Pirates, freshman Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y.) had 16 kills.  Junior Jennifer Procuniar (Grapevine, Texas) registered 15 digs, and freshman Stacey Craighead (Roanoke, Va.) added 10 kills.

With Seton Hall leading the match 2-0, the Pirates started game three strong, taking a 10-5 advantage.  The Colonials went on a 5-0 run to tie the game, but Seton Hall scored the next five points to make it 15-10.  Robert Morris responded by going on a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the match at 16-15.  The Colonials extended the lead to 26-18 and went on to win game three.

In game four, the Pirates jumped out to a 13-7 lead, but Robert Morris tried to come back, cutting the Seton Hall lead to 17-15.  The Pirates added to their lead at 20-16, but the Colonials hung around and tied the game at 28-28.  Seton Hall regrouped and Matters scored the next two points with a kill and a service ace to seal the victory.

The Pirates return to BIG EAST action against Cincinnati, on Friday, Oct. 20, in Cincinnati, Ohio, at 7:00 p.m.
