Volleyball Loses Third Straight BIG EAST Match

CINCINNATI, OHIO- The Seton Hall volleyball team dropped its match against Cincinnati 3-1 (30-17, 29-31, 30-24, 30-17).  The Pirates (13-10, 2-5 BE) have lost three conference matches in a row.  Cincinnati improved to 15-5 overall and 5-3 in BIG EAST play.

Despite the loss, the Pirates had many noteworthy performances.  Freshman Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y.) led Seton Hall with 16 kills and a career-high 23 digs.  Sophomore Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a strong match in her return to her hometown, posting 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .355.  Sophomore Breanna Leisner (Bloomington, Ill.) registered a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.

After dropping the first match 30-17, Seton Hall evened the match at one game a piece in game two.  The Pirates pulled away from the Bearcats with a 7-1 run to take a 16-10 lead.  Seton Hall extended the lead to seven with a Kelly Widders (Dublin, Ohio) kill to make it 20-13, but Cincinnati responded by going on a 14-2 run to capture the lead 28-25.  The Pirates were facing match point at 29-27, but capitalized on a Bearcat attack error to force a side-out. Seton Hall scored the next three points and won the game after two Meyers kills.

Cincinnati responded in game three by taking a 21-14 lead.  The Pirates tried to make a comeback but fell short as they lost game three 30-27, and game four, 30-17.

The Pirates return to action on Sunday, Oct. 22, against Louisville in a BIG EAST contest at 1:00 p.m. in Louisville, Ky.
