NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.- The Seton Hall volleyball team defeated Rutgers, 3-0 (30-21, 30-14, 30-19). Despite the win, the Pirates (15-13, 4-8 BE) were eliminated from BIG EAST Tournament contention with their loss to Villanova on Friday night. The Scarlet Knights record is now 5-18 overall, and 2-10 in the BIG EAST.
Sophomore Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati, Ohio) exploded for 18 kills and posted an impressive .652 hitting percentage. Freshman Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y) had nine kills and five digs, snapping her five match double-double streak. Sophomore Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) handed out 38 assists on the day.
In game one, the Pirates jumped out to a 6-3 lead, but the Scarlet Knights cut the Seton Hall lead to 11-10. The Pirates extended the advantage to 22-16, then Rutgers came within three, to make the score 24-21. Seton Hall went on a 6-0 run, to win the game, as they went on to sweep the Scarlet Knights.
The Pirates return to action on Friday Nov. 10, when they take on Marquette at 7:00 p.m. in Walsh Gymnasium.
