SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Seton Hall Games on Sunday. The Pirates took first in seven individual events, and a women’s relay earned a win. Seton Hall also had two athletes qualify for the indoor postseason.
Senior Dominique Washington (Baltimore, Md.) qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Indoor Championships in the high jump, with a jump of five feet, eight inches. Freshman Jernail Hayes (Newark, Del.) earned a birth in the 60 meter hurdles with her 8.85 second finish. Hayes also qualified for the BIG EAST Championship along with the ECAC Indoor Championships in the 200 meter dash, winning the race in 24.73 seconds.
The women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Hayes, freshman Toneisha Friday (Somerset, N.J.), sophomore Alexandra McCoy (Goldsboro, N.C.), and Washington captured first place. Another top performer for the Seton Hall women was junior Kerry Cahill (Hillsborough, N.J.), who took the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:55.
For the Pirate men, junior Dwayne Joseph (Willingboro, N.J.) won the 60 meter hurdles, while teammate, senior Travis Morancie (Miramar, Fla.) was the runner-up in the event. Sophomore Pawel Kornaszewski (Clifton, N.J.) earned a win in the 3,000 meter, finishing in 9:03. Sophomore Rob Novak (Bordentown, N.J) ran 4:20 mile to take first place, and junior Greg Gomes (Somerset, N.J) finished first in the 1,000 meter run (2:35).
