SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Seton Hall Open on Sunday. Both teams had strong performances by freshmen, participating in their first career collegiate meet.
For the men, sophomore Pawel Kornaszewski (Clifton, N.J.) won heat two of the one-mile with a time of 4:44.91. Sophomore Rob Novak (Bordentown, N.J.) edged out Kornaszewski in heat one of the 3,000 meter. Novak finished the race in 9:02.23.
Junior Greg Gomes (Somerset, N.J) won heat one of the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.92, and junior Dwight Crooks (Bronx, N.Y) took the second heat of that event in 2:04.61. Senior Travis Morancie (Mirimar, Fla.) and junior Dwayne Joseph (Willingboro, N.J.) finished in third and fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles. Morancie ran a time of 8.39, while Joseph finished the event in 8.48 seconds.
Senior Shane Giblin (Novi, Mich.) won heat nine of the 500 meter run in 1:10.49. Sophomore Jemel Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) won heat one of the 400 meter (49.41), freshman Sean Morris (Burlington, N.J.) finished first in heat three of the event (50.70).
Also for the men, sophomore Terrance Gallogly (Providence, R.I.) finished third in heat two of the one mile (4:52.33).
On the women’s side, senior Dominique Washington (Baltimore, Md.) took the high-jump with a mark of 5’8”, freshman Shamika Kentish (Virginia Beach, Va.) won heat one of the 60 meter dash in 7.90, sophomore Adama Pitts (Jacksonville, Fla.) took heat two of the event, finishing in 8.05 seconds. Senior Shakeema Martin (Lakewood, N.J.) earned a second place finish in heat one of the 500 meter run (1:18.83).
Other top performers on the women’s team were freshman Joanna Borawski (Bayonne, N.J.), who came in second in the shot-put with a throw of 11.50 meters
The track and field teams return to action Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Seton Hall Games in South Orange.
