Track and Field Competes at Michael Johnson Classic

WACO, Texas – The Seton Hall men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at Baylor University’s Michael Johnson Classic at the Hart Patterson Track and Field Complex on Saturday. Senior Gorgeous Harper (Philadelphia, Pa.) garnered the team’s only first-place finish of the day, winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.63.

Senior Denise Cruse (Takoma Park, Md.) also ran well in the 400-meter dash, finishing third in 58.03. Two other strong finishers for the women’s team were freshman Alexandra McCoy (Goldsboro, N.C.), who was second in the 200-meter dash (24.71) and sophomore Ayana Wyse (White Plains, N.Y.), placing third in the 200-meter dash (25.02).

Junior Dominique Washington (Baltimore, Md.) was the team’s top field finisher, tying for third place in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters.

On the men’s side, senior Justin Wood (Walton, N.Y.) finished in second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 10:09.64. Senior Sir Leslie Ford (Piscataway, N.J.) was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles (14.78), with sophomore Dwight Crooks (Bronx, N.Y.) right behind him, placing fourth (48.83).

Two other strong finishes for the men’s team came from freshman Rob Novak (Bordentown, N.J.), who ran to a third-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:49.54, and junior Travis Morancie (Miramar, Fla.), finishing fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, 14.78.

The Seton Hall men’s and women’s track and field teams return to action on Thursday, Apr. 27, when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to run in the Penn Relays.
