Track and Field Competes at Duke University Relays

DURHAM, N.C. – The Seton Hall men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Duke University Relays at Wallace Wade Stadium on Friday and Saturday. Both squads had several individuals record top-10 finishes in various events.
In Friday’s action, freshman Adama Pitts (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomore Ayana Wyse (White Plains, N.Y.) finished neck-in-neck in the 100-meter dash. Pitts places fifth with a time of 12.53, and Wyse was just one one-hundredth of a second behind, coming in sixth.
Also Friday, senior Denise Cruse (Takoma Park, Md.) ran to an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.43) and freshman Alexandra McCoy (Goldsboro, N.C.) placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.14).
For the men’s team, sophomore Greg Gomes (Somerset, N.J.) came in third in the 400-meter dash develop (48.55) and junior Travis Morancie (Miramar, Fla.) was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (55.18).
Seton Hall had several strong finishes in Sunday’s action. Junior Bryan Burney (Mebane, N.C.) placed sixth in the 800-meter run (1:49.74), freshman Carl Smith (Camden, N.J.) was 10th in the seeded 400-meter dash (48.25), and junior Marybeth Weiss (Riverdale, N.J.) finished 10th in the javelin, with a throw of 34.81 meters. Also for the Pirates, junior Shakeema Martin (Lakewood, N.J.) ran to an 11th-place finish in the 400-meter dash (48.25).
In relay action, both the men’s and women’s teams had strong showings in the 4x400 meter. The women’s team placed third in the event (3:44.49) and the men were fifth (3:12.74).
The Seton Hall track and field team continues its outdoor season next weekend, when it travels to Nashville, Tenn., to compete in the Tennessee State Invitational.
