Academic All-America At-Large First Team

Matt Miklius

DELAWARE, Ohio– Senior Matt Miklius (Palatine, Ill.) of the Seton Hall swim team has been named to ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America At-Large First Team, it was announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Miklius is a repeat selection to the award, as he was an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Third Team selection in 2005. In addition, Miklius was a First Team District 2 selection in both 2005 and 2006, and was a Second Team District 2 selection in 2004.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America program bestows All-America and All-District academic honors upon student-athletes in both University and College divisions based upon a combination of athletic and academic achievement. The Academic All-America First Team designation is the highest academic individual honor in the nation, while the University Division honors student-athletes from NCAA Division I institutions. A First, Second and Third Team were named.

A physics major with a math minor, Miklius holds a 4.0 grade point average. A tri-captain of the squad, he was named Seton Hall’s Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2006. Miklius is a school record holder in two events: the 1000 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay, and was the 2005 ECAC Champion in the 500 freestyle. In the 2006 season, Miklius recorded two first place finishes against Iona in the 500 and 1000 freestyles and swam to first place in the 1000 freestyle against Montclair State and Villanova. Miklius has been a BIG EAST Academic All-Star for three years.

Miklius is the only Seton Hall swimmer to achieve Academic All-America honors.
