SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. A project to upgrade Seton Hall’s athletic facilities, as well as fitness facilities for students, has begun at both Owen T. Carroll Field and the Richie Regan Recreation & Athletic Center, director of athletics Joe Quinlan announced.
“These improvements reaffirm our commitment to athletic excellence and will benefit the Seton Hall community in many ways,” Quinlan said. “We are excited about the project and feel our student-athletes and the general student body will be the proud beneficiaries of this investment.”
Construction has begun at Owen T. Carroll Field, home of Seton Hall’s baseball team and men’s and women’s soccer teams, on a new Field Turf synthetic surface. The new surface, which will replace the current grass field, will allow for more flexibility in terms of scheduling, practice and weather-related issues. Bullpens and batting areas will be relocated and new landscaping will be incorporated around the field’s perimeter.
Renovations will also take place in the Recreation & Athletic Center to expand locker room facilities adjacent to Walsh Gym for the women’s basketball and volleyball programs. The new women’s basketball locker room will feature a locker area and team meeting room. A new locker room will be built for the volleyball team as well, plus locker rooms for officials and visiting teams.
In the Recreation & Athletic Center, a 4,500-square foot Student Fitness Center will be built with a new free weight area, new cardiovascular and strength equipment, and 12 plasma TV screens. The fitness center will also have a wireless audio system.
