Volleyball Set To Open 2006 Season at Delaware Invitational

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. Seton Hall is trying to turn heads this weekend as the Kris Zeiter era officially begins for the volleyball team at the Delaware Invitational. The Pirates will face off against UT-Arlington on Friday, August 25, and then play the host, Delaware, and Marist on Saturday, August 26.

Seton Hall opens the Invitational against the UT-Arlington Mavericks for a 4:30 p.m. contest.  The Mavericks return four starters plus a libero from last season and hope with a more experienced squad they can improve from last season’s 6-21 mark. On Saturday, the Pirates have two matches.  First up are the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens at 1:00 p.m., who are looking to rebound from a disappointing 11-20 record in 2005.  The Pirates will get right back to the floor and take on the Marist Red Foxes at 5:00 p.m.

The Pirates are led by senior Jessica King (Midland, Ontario), who has improved in each of her three seasons at Seton Hall and will look to help the Pirates improve on their 14-16 mark in the 2005 campaign.  Senior Jessica Pompei (Fairview Park, Ohio) comes in 156 digs shy of breaking the Seton Hall career record of 1,236 set by Laura Romeika.

The Pirates have an all-time record of 4-2 against Delaware, and are 11-0 against Marist.  Seton Hall is facing UT-Arlington for the first time.
