Volleyball Falls to Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. The Seton Hall volleyball team fell to 1-3 on the season after losing their first game of the Hofstra Invitational on Friday night.  Hofstra defeated the Pirates, 3-1 (30-16, 27-30, 30-25, 30-17).  The win was the first of the season for the Pride who are now 1-3 on the season.

Freshman Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y.) led Seton Hall with 18 kills and 17 digs, and sophomore Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) continued her strong play on the season by adding 48 assists.  Also chipping in for the Pirates was sophomore Breanna Leisner (Bloomington, Ill.) with 14 kills and three service aces for the match.

The Pirates dropped the first game 30-16, then bounced back to win the second game 30-27.  In that game Seton Hall fell behind 12-5 but then rallied to a 6-0 run to cut the Hofstra lead to two at 13-11.  The Pride then tried to separate themselves from the Pirates, taking a 25-21 lead; but Seton Hall went on another run to take a 26-25 lead and then held on to win 30-27.  After a close game three, Hofstra went on to finish the match in game four, winning by a score of 30-17.

Seton Hall has two games remaining in the Hofstra Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 2.  They face Albany at 9:30 a.m. and then Fairfield at 3:30 p.m.
