HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. Freshman Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y.) took all tournament honors as the volleyball team took third place at the Hofstra Invitational. The Pirates lost it's second match at the Hofstra Invitational on Saturday morning to Albany, 3-1 (30-26, 30-32, 30-27, 30-28). That match was delayed for a half hour with Albany at match point due to a campus-wide power outage. In the second match, the Pirates defeated Fairfield in 4 games, (30-21, 30-28, 26-30, 30-27). Seton Hall improves their record to 2-4 for the season.
In the first match, the Pirates were led by sophomore Breanna Leisner (Bloomington Ill.) who had 18 kills and 22 digs. Fellow sophomore Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .429 for the match. Matters had 14 kills and 14 digs. Also playing well for Seton Hall were senior Jessica Pompei (Fairview Park, Ohio) with 26 digs, and sophomore Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who added 51 assists in the opener.
The same players who contributed in the first match also led the Pirates’ in their win against Fairfield. Meyers added 21 kills and also had an impressive hitting percentage of .576 for the match. Leisner had 18 kills, Matters added another 17, and Rahrer put up 62 assists.
Seton Hall has their first home game of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 6, where they take on Iona at 7:00 p.m.
