
Track and Field Competes at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Seton Hall track and field teams continued competition on Friday at the Colonial Relays. The scheduled two-day event was shortened to one day due to weather conditions. The Pirates had a strong day, adding athletes in six events for the outdoor postseason.
Sophomore Joanna Borawski (Bayonne, N.J.) broke the school record in the javelin for the third consecutive competition. She finished in second at the relays with a throw of 43.33 meters.
In the women's 100-meter dash, sophomore Adama Pitts (Jacksonville, Fla.) qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Outdoor Championships after clocking in at 12.04, good enough for second place. Freshman Shamika Kentish (Virginia Beach, Va.) took fourth place and clinched a birth in the BIG EAST's with a time of 12.19.
Joining Kentish at the conference championships will be sophomore Alexandra McCoy (Goldsboro, N.C.), who ran the 400-meter dash in 56.69.
Senior Dominique Washington (Baltimore, Md.) just missed qualifying for the ECAC's in the long jump at Richmond, but reached the standard mark of 5.80 meters on Friday.
Senior Shakeema Martin (Lakewood, N.J.) has already qualified for the 200-meter dash for both postseason meets, but still won the event with a time of 24.29.
For the men, Justin McKenzie (Upper Marlboro, Md.) earned a spot in the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships for his time of 1:52.49 in the 800-meter. Senior Desmond Perkins (Chesapeake, Va.) ran the race in 1:52.68 to qualify for the BIG EAST Championships.
Sophomore Pawel Kornaszewski (Clifton, N.J.) improved on his qualifying time for the BIG EAST's in the 10,000-meter run at Richmond, to earn a place in the IC4A's. Kornaszewski placed fifth with a time of 31:06.56.
Junior Greg Gomes (Somerset, N.J.) will attempt to add more BIG EAST Titles to his resume after qualifying for the 400-meter hurdles (55:07).
Sophomores Jemel Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) and James Gurr (Sydney, Australia) placed second and third in the 400-meter dash. Williams finished in 48.28 and Gurr in 48.47. Both have qualified for the postseason in the event.
The Pirates travel to Nashville, Tenn. for the Tennessee State Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 14.
