
Volleyball Falls Twice at Sooner Legends Nike Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. - The Seton Hall volleyball team fell to Denver, 3-1 (30-17, 30-18, 18-30, 30-18) and No. 22 Oklahoma, 3-0 (30-17, 30-22, 30-20), on the second day of the Sooner Legends Nike Invitational. Sophomore Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y) was named to the All-Tournament Team
Denver dominated games one and two, holding a comfortable margin throughout each frame. Seton Hall grabbed an early 11-7 lead in the third game and never looked back, winning 30-18 to stay in the match.
The Pioneers responded in game four by taking a 12-6 lead. The Pirates could not close the gap and suffered the loss.
Freshman Sarah Osmun (Crystal Lake, Ill.) earned her first career double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs. Senior Jennifer Procuniar (Grapevine, Texas) and Matters each had 10 digs.
In the Oklahoma match, the Sooners controlled the entire first game, then used a 7-0 run to pull away in game two. The Pirates tried to mount a comeback, but the Sooners maintained their cushion and went on to take the game, 30-22.
In game three, Seton Hall took an early 7-5 advantage, but Oklahoma (2-0) rolled off the next six points to regain control and cruised to the take the deciding set, 30-20.
Matters led the Seton Hall's attack with eight kills, and freshman Megan Murison (Woodridge, Ill.) posted a team-high 10 digs against the Sooners. The Pirates have now dropped their last 11 matches against ranked foes, dating back to 1994.

Seton Hall returns to action with a double-header on Friday, Aug. 31 against Arkansas-Little Rock at 2:00 p.m. and Maryland-Eastern Shore at 6:00 p.m. at the Jasper Invitational, hosted by Manhattan.
