The second game of the weekend started much better than the night before as the Pirates jumped out to 3-1 lead in the 1st period on goals from Tim Miller (10G, 5A), Mike McKenna (2G, 0A), and Tyler Mannino (8G, 4A). It was down hill from there though as the Lions scored 5 of the next 6 goals in the game, with only Colin Fox (9G, 6A) managing a goal in the 2nd period. Fox’s second goal of the night pulled the Pirates to within one at 6-5, but the Lions put a goal in the empty net and then scored another late goal to stretch the lead back to 8-5 by the end of the game. The one bright spot on the night was that Fox’s goals pulled him to fourth place in goals scored in the MACHA with five goals in four games. Team captain Zach Cutrell (7G, 13A) tallied three assists to put him at second place in assists in the MACHA with seven in four games.
The Pirates fortunes turned on Sunday night as the Montclair State Red Hawks came to Codey Arena for the local showdown. After a hard fought 1st period the score remained 0-0. The Pirates jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 2nd with goals from Colin Fox, Sean McFadden (6G, 4A), and Rob Soper (2G, 6A). The Pirates stretched the lead to 5-1 on McFadden’s second goal of the night and another by Zach Cutrell. From there the Pirates and Red Hawks exchanged goals until it was 7-3 late in the 3rd period. Brian Slattery added his second goal of the weekend and Zack Cutrell put in his second of the night. From there the Pirates took a few ill-advised penalties and almost let the Red Hawks sneak back in the game by allowing 2 goals in the last 3 minutes. In the end the Pirates D held the lead and Seton Hall did away with the Red Hawks 7-5.
