
Track and Field Hosts New Year's Classic

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall track and field squads hosted the SHU New Year's Classic on January 6. Sophomore Toneisha Friday (Somerset, N.J.), junior Chavanne Hubbard (Somerset, N.J.), and junior James Gurr (Sydney, Australia) all qualified for the postseason at the event.
Hubbard clinched a berth in the ECAC Indoor Championships after running a time of 1:15.80 in the 500-meter dash en route to a first place finish. Gurr cleared the BIG EAST mark in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:54.33. Friday hit the BIG EAST standard time of 7.85 in the 60-meter dash, as she won the competition.
In the high jump, freshman Nick Frimpong (East Hartford, Conn.) just missed an NCAA provisional mark and a Fieldhouse record by one centimeter after an attempt of 2.13 meters.
The Pirates head back into action at the Army Open on January 11.
