STORRS, Conn. The Seton Hall volleyball team was swept by Connecticut, 3-0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-22) on Friday. The Pirates are now 12-12 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

Senior Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had 29 assists, and is now just 20 away from breaking the school’s career record. Freshman Rachael Thornquist (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the team with 15 kills and a .387 attack percentage.

With the score tied, 10-10, in the opening frame, the Huskies (17-7, 6-3) went on a tear with a 15-5 run to blow out SHU in the set.

In the second set, the Pirates fell behind, 14-11, but scored five straight capped by a pair of kills from Thornquist to go ahead for the first time in the match. Seton Hall continued to hold a lead and was on the verge of taking the set with a 24-21 advantage. With its back against the wall, UConn used a timeout and ripped off another big run of 8-2 to comeback and take a 2-0 lead.

The Pirates started the third set by taking a 14-7 lead, but the Huskies had the answer again. Connecticut slowly crept back into the frame, and eventually scored seven straight to hold a 19-17 edge. Sophomore Sarah Osmun (Crystal Lake, Ill) tied the score, 22-22, but that was the last time the Pirates would score in the match.

Seton Hall returns to action on Sunday, November 2, at St. John’s at 2:00 p.m.
