Golf Leads Scotty Duncan Memorial after Day One

FIRST ROUND RESULTS

STANTON, DEL. The Seton Hall golf team is currently leading the field of 16 teams after day one of the Scotty Duncan Memorial Tournament hosted by the University of Delaware.

The Pirates shot a 288 in the first round and are currently three strokes ahead of second place Delaware. 

Three players are currently tied for the individual lead and include two Pirates golfers.  Juniors Ryan Castanet (McDonald, Pa.) and David Sampson (Warren, R.I.) shot a 2-under-par, 70, in round one to share the tournament’s individual lead with Delaware’s Colin Smith.

Castanet’s top finish so far this season was tying for 21^st at the Rutgers Invitational.  Sampson top showing was last weekend when he tied for 36^th at the Hawks Invitational.

Freshman Troy Spencer (High Point, N.C.) also had a strong opening round with a 1-over-par, 73.  Sophomore Colin Van Es (Granger, Ind.) fired a 3-over-par, 75, while senior John Zur (Glenview, Ill) rounded out the Pirates’ scoring with a 6-over-par, 78.

Seton Hall’s team score of 288 is the best first round score the team has recorded this year.  This includes their season-opening victory at the Rutgers Invitational.
