SHU Drive for Charity Mid-Point Update
11/24/2008 12:00:00 AM | General
South Orange, NJ Every 23 seconds, Soles4Souls Inc. gives away another pair of shoes to someone in need. The shoe charity has earned glowing endorsements from Hollywood stars and professional athletes, but the people who truly make the non-profit organization effective are those who clean out their closets and donate their gently worn’ shoes. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes collecting dust in their closets. The charity can use each and every one of these pairs to make a tangible difference in someone's life.
The office of Academic Support Services for Student-Athletes and the Department of Athletics have teamed up with Soles4Souls Inc, a non-profit organization that collects and disperses gently worn’ shoes world-wide to those in need. After two very successful weeks, just over 250 pairs of shoes have been collected, thanks largely to Annemarie Ianiero, whose Girl Scout Troup collected and donated 98 pairs. With two weeks remaining, the goal of collecting 500 pairs of shoes is well within reach.
The shoe drive will continue to run through Thanksgiving Break until December 4, 2008. Students, alumni, administrators, and faculty members are urged to ask family members and friends, as well as go through their own closets, and bring new or gently worn footwear to Seton Hall University's South Orange campus after the holiday. Drop-off boxes are located around campus at the University Center lobby, Richie Regan Recreation and Athletics Center lobby and Mooney Hall room 324. One hour of community service is available to those who donate 5 pairs of shoes to the Mooney Hall room 324 location only!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT!
