Seton Hall Creates Memorable Holiday for Youngsters

 SOUTH ORANGE, NJ -- The Seton Hall Athletic Department made sure this was a memorable holiday season for over 1,000 youngsters the last two weeks as it participated in a series of parties that featured the Seton Hall Pirate mascot, food, and gifts.

“The Seton Hall Athletic Department really has a big heart,” said former Pirate player Jerry Walker, who is the President of the non-profit community organization Team Walker.  “They helped make it a great holiday for a large group of Team Walker youngsters in Jersey City. The Pirate mascot dressed up as Santa Claus and was a huge hit.”

The Team Walker party was successful thanks to Seton Hall hosting a Toy Drive at Prudential Center in Newark prior to its December 20^th home basketball double-header.  At the December 23^rd Team Walker event, over 300 children danced and listened to a great DJ, former Pirate center Luther Wright, and enjoyed face painting and a number of other activities.

The Team Walker holiday party was one of the four events supported by Seton Hall Athletics.   The Boys and Girls Club of Newark had two parties at local elementary schools and La Casa de Don Pedro held its annual holiday party in Newark.

“We’re pleased to be involved with the community,” explained Assistant Athletic Director Jamison Hannigan.  “Our players, coaches and administrators all feel strongly that giving back to the community is the right thing to do.  We’re also exceptionally proud of former players such as Jerry Walker who are spending so much time in helping the young people in places such as Jersey City and Newark.”
