
NCAA Announces Rule Changes for 2008 Volleyball Season

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA has made several rule changes to be implemented during the upcoming volleyball season. Below is a list and explanation of the changes from the 2008 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Book of Rules and Interpretations.
Terminology Change “Game” changed to “Set”
The term “game” has been changed to “set.” The winner of a match is still decided by the first team to win three sets.
Points Required To Win A Set Changed To 25
“For each non-deciding set, a team that scores 25 points and has at least a two-point advantage of the opponent wins that set. If the score is tied at 24-24, play continues until one team has a lead of two points.” (Rule 8.2.1, NCAA Volleyball Handbook)
Maximum Substitutions Lowered To 12
“Each team is entitled to 12 substitutions per set.” (11.2.2.1, NCAA Volleyball Handbook)
