In the first set, the Pirates jumped out to an 8-4 lead, sparked by two kills from Bellomy. The Mountaineers (5-7; 0-1 BE) chipped away, closing within 17-15, but SHU finished strong with a 7-2 run to take the lead in the match.

The Mountaineers scored two straight after a timeout to extend the lead back to four. Another kill from Wrobel pulled the Pirates within one at 18-17, but once again WVU rallied to score three consecutive points.
With the score 22-18 in favor of the Mountaineers, Bellomy recorded a kill that started a huge run for SHU. Senior Brittany Rahrer (
SHU continued to roll in the third set by taking a 6-1 lead to start the frame, and did not allow WVU to threaten as they went on for the 25-14 win.
