SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall head volleyball coach Kris Zeiter has announced the signing of two recruits for the 2010 season. The Pirates will welcome middle blocker Hannah Guth (Palatine, Ill.) and Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) to the squad next fall.
"This recruiting class is filling some holes that we needed to address," Zeiter said. "Both come from top high school and club programs and should transition seamlessly into BIG EAST play next season."
Guth stands at 6-3 and led the MSL Conference with 82 blocks. She was selected as a Daily Herald All-Area player and named to the All-Conference Team after racking up 159 kills and 39 aces in her senior season at Palatine High School. Guth's club team, Sky High, is one of the best in the country and finished 10th at the 2009 AAU Junior National Championships in Orlando, Fla. and placed third JVDA Championships in Louisville, Ky.
"Hannah is going to give us some needed depth in the middle," said Zeiter. "She is an athletic player with tremendous upside. I expect her to challenge for playing time right away."
Warren has experience as an outside hitter, defensive specialist, and libero, but is projected to be used primarily in the back row at the collegiate level. She has led Joliet Catholic Academy to a pair of Illinois State 3A Championships in 2008 and 2009. Warren is a decorated four-year letter-winner that has been named to the East Suburban Catholic All-Conference Team, the Chicago Sun Times All-Area First Team, and a Prep Volleyball Defensive Dandelion in 2009. In addition, she has been considered as a top-20 Illinois girls volleyball player to watch by the Chicago Tribune, and was nominated to AVCA top girls volleyball list.
"While replacing Allie Matters won't be an easy task, I think Alyssa will make an immediate impact on the team," stated Zeiter. "Her experience playing outside hitter will be a big asset, and I think she has the potential to be a top libero for years to come."
Seton Hall will face Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship on Friday, November 20, at 3:30 p.m. The match can be viewed by visiting bigeast.tv.
