John Garcia, Men’s Basketball
Senior John Garcia played some of his finest basketball of the season, helping the Pirates go 2-0 in wins over BIG EAST rivals St. John’s and Rutgers. Garcia contributed eight points, nine rebounds, four assists and five blocks in the win over the Red Storm. Against the Scarlet Knights, he finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. On Rutgers’ final possession, it was Garcia who pulled down the defensive rebound with only three seconds left and found Hazell for another dunk and the proverbial nail in the coffin. For his efforts, Garcia was named the 2008-09 John Calabrese MVP of the game.
