
Baseball Earns Fifth Straight Win; Beats Stony Brook, 10-4

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall baseball team picked up 10 runs on 13 hits including two hits each by juniors Chris Spagnuolo (Tabernacle, N.J.) and Michael Rogers (Portland, Ore.) as well as freshman Charlie Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) as they defeated Stony Brook, 10-4, Tuesday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. With the win, the Pirates continue their five-game winning streak and improved their record to 8-5.
Senior Matt Smedberg (Rockaway, N.J.) began the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single. Trailing, 2-1, in the bottom of the second inning, Rivera scored the first of his two runs on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the third inning, senior Chris Affinito (East Brunswick, N.J.) drove home Smedberg from first base with an RBI double to right field, breaking the tie. Affinito gave the Pirates a, 4-2, on a sacrifice fly by Spagnuolo.
Nick Thode ripped an RBI double for the Seawolves in the top of the fifth inning cutting the Pirates lead to, 4-3, however Spagnuolo came right back in the bottom half with an RBI single giving the Pirates their two-run edge back.
