Golf Places 15th at Lightning-Shortened Cavalier Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. Due to a lightning delay and then darkness, the second and final round of the Cavalier Classic was unable to be completed therefore the team and player scores following the first round of action became the final scores.  The Seton Hall men’s golf team finished the tournament with a 15^th place at the par-72 Birdwood Golf Course.    

As a team, Seton Hall shot a 22-over-par, 310, in round one finished 24 shots off the lead.  South Carolina won the tournament with a 2-under-par, 286. 

The Pirates bested two other BIG EAST schools in the field of 18.  Villanova finished in 16^th place after shooting a 24-over-par, 312, while Rutgers placed 17^th following their 25-over-par, 313.

The top four Seton Hall scorers all finished within four strokes of each other.  Junior Ryan Castanet (McDonald, Pa.) lead the way for the Pirates with a 4-over-par, 76.  Senior John Zur (Glenview, Ill) shot a 5-over-par, 77, junior David Sampson (Warren, R.I.) fired a 6-over-par, 78, and sophomore Colin Van Es (Granger, Ind.) recorded a 7-over-par, 79.

Rounding out the Pirates’ five-some, freshman Troy Spencer (High Point, N.C.) checked in with a 10-over-par, 82.

This tournament completes the regular season for the Pirates.
