SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — Former Seton Hall baseball pitcher Sean Black picked up his first professional victory in his first-ever start as his Staten Island Yankees defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 9-1, in Wednesday evening’s New York-Penn League game.
Black tossed five scoreless innings allowing only three hits with one strikeout and one walk to improve his record to 1-0.
The right-hander from Mt. Laurel, N.J. was drafted in day two of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, in the seventh round, 225th overall, by the New York Yankees. He signed with team earlier this week and was assigned to their short-season Single-A affiliate.
