SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall volleyball team fell to USF, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-17), on Saturday in Walsh Gym. The Bulls (9-3, 2-0) racked up 18.5 blocks and limited the Pirates (7-11, 1-1) to a .088 attack percentage in the match.
Sophomore Krissy Wrobel (Reading, Pa.) led the team with eight kills on the strength of a .500 attack percentage. Senior Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y.) extended her nation's-best double-figure dig streak to 55 matches with 12 defensive saves.
USF went ahead 10-7 in the first set, but SHU rallied with three straight to tie the score. Later in the frame, freshman Morgan DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich.) capped another mini-spurt to give the Pirates a 17-15 advantage. The Bulls answered with four unanswered points out of a timeout to quickly regain the lead, and held off a Seton Hall, 25-21.
In the second, USF jumped out to a 10-5 lead only to see the Pirates use an 8-3 run to grab a one-point advantage. With the score still tight, the Bulls rattled off four consecutive scores to take a 20-16 advantage. The Hall bridged the gap with three straight, but the Pirates would not come any closer and fell behind, 2-0.
After another close start to the third, the Bulls pulled away to hold a commanding 20-14 lead and finish the sweep.
Seton Hall will hit the road to play Marquette on Friday, October 2, at 7:00 p.m.
