
Villanova Tops Volleyball, 3-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Villanova rallied from one set down to beat the Seton Hall volleyball team on Sunday, 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-22). The Pirates (8-13, 2-3) are back in action on Friday at Rutgers.
Sophomore Hannah Hugeback (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the Hall with 13 kills and a career-high 23 digs. Junior Meghan Matusiak (Winfield, Ill.) added 12 kills and 14 digs, and senior Sarah Osmun (Crystal Lake, Ill.) added 10 kills. Freshman Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) came up with 22 digs, while sophomore Olivia Trudeau (Shell Beach, Calif.) totaled 42 assists and 18 digs.
Morgan Petkovich led the Wildcats (16-4, 5-1) with 18 kills.
Seton Hall got off to a strong start in set one, grabbing a 12-8 lead following kills by Matusiak and junior Krissy Wrobel (Reading, Pa.). Villanova cut it to two on several occasions down the stretch, but the Pirates held the advantage and eventually closed the set out on points from Hugeback and Trudeau.
With a 9-6 lead in the second, the Hall ran into trouble giving up a 14-4 run to fall behind by seven. Villanova rolled from there to even the match before taking a 2-1 edge with a third set victory.
The Pirates were back in rhythm to begin set four, working their way out to a 13-7 lead behind the offense of Hugeback. Villanova steadily crawled back into it, tying the score at 19 before eventually grabbing a 22-21 advantage. After a service error tied it back up, the Wildcats ran off three straight to take the 3-1 win.
